$7 general admission

Saints & Ain’ts: A Good Word is an immersive pop-up performance experience inspired by the stage play created by Dasan Ahanu. There will be poetry, music, movement, and joy (always joy). We want you to come participate in this distinct cultural experience. Dasan and special guests will take the audience on an arts journey centered on community and truth.

Saints & Ain’ts (the stage-play) is part Sunday service reinterpretation, part juke joint reimagining and part underground dance club escapism. This work invites the audience into a communal celebration of life, faith, resiliency and Black joy. It is a fellowship that recognizes that we will only achieve the liberation we seek together as a body of believers.

In this episode of “The Adventures of Mystery Green,” Green and Malik have found themselves in a very precarious situation in Wilson, NC. What was supposed to be a relaxing visit to Malik’s grandmother’s house turned into a roller coaster of emotion, turmoil, confusion, and treachery. Before you know it, Green and Malik find themselves investigating the chaos with folks imploring them to determine the source.

This staged reading brings the adventures of your favorite soulful sleuth you just found out about, to life. Playwright Dasan Ahanu blends humor, cleverness, poetics, and soul music, all with the intent of creating a whole vibe. Find out how Green solves complex cases with keen observation, deductive reasoning, and a lot of sarcasm. This play is a Black Poetry Theatre production.

“Sweet Tea, Lemonade, and Double Cups: The art of storytelling” is a workshop that examines the art of storytelling from three distinct perspectives. See how “sipping tea,” Beyonce’s Lemonade, and double cups of lean can inform how you craft a narrative poem. Join this generative workshop as we look to these Pop Culture artifacts for inspiration in developing content. This is a generative poetry workshop where you will leave with new work.

At the 1995 Source Awards, André 3000 proclaimed, “The South got something to say.” To understand the depth of that profound truth, you must spend some time with the brilliance brewed below the Mason-Dixon line. With Writin’ Dirty, Dasan Ahanu explores the South’s deep and enduring poetics. A rich and distinctive tapestry of oration and storytelling, there is something special bout how the pen moves to craft poetry round here. Let’s dig into what makes what comes out of the Dirty South so compelling and dynamic.
